Omkara is a 2012 Indian romantic drama film directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and starring Deepika Padukone and Ranvir Shorey. The film tells the story of Amrish (Ranvir Shorey), an aspiring musician, and the wife he has never seen — Omkara (Deepika Padukone), a woman married to his employer Mr. Rukmani (Anupam Kher) for 15 years who does not remember her own name. It was filmed on location in Kathmandu, Nepal, where Omkara's heritage is from; it made over $2 million at the international box office upon release in India and overseas.. This film marks the debut of Deepika Padukone in a leading role.Amrish Singh (Ranvir Shorey) is a talented musician, who is also the son of Mr.rukmani (Anupam Kher), a retired army officer. At his house he lives with his mother, sister and wife Omkara who is not realising her husband's condition and it's till Amrish leaves for Nepal to find peace from his turbulent life he meets her. He comes back to India to live with the simple lifestyle and the only human being who remembers him by name which is Omkara. The movie runs in flashback mode where Amrish is married to Omkara, she is married to Rukmani, she is not aware of her own name and through these flashbacks how both love each other is shown. Both are happy together but the tough time comes when he has to face with Mr.Rukmani who discovers that his daughter-in-law doesn't know who he is or where she came from. He gets all the family members together so that Omkara can re-learn her own self. He even goes on to hurt Amrish,s life by having him jailed for being an outsider in his own home. Amrish is jailed and Omkara soon realizes her husband's sacrifices for her and falls in love with him again. She goes to the police station and confesses that Amrish is not an outsider but she doesn't know who she really is. Amrish proves to everyone how much he loves Omkara and after a few days of re-learning things like how to walk, talk and eat, Omkara remembers everything and reunites with Amrish. Amrish introduces his wife to his mother who does not like it at first, but soon accepts her into the family. Amrish and Omkara move to Kathmandu with their son, but Amrish is unhappy with his job and wants to pursue his dream of becoming a successful musician. He does not want to go home without his dream, so he leaves Omkara behind in Kathmandu while he goes back to India. Omkara and Amrish get into a train and they wave at each other through the train's windows.

The film was mostly shot in Kathmandu, Nepal, where Deepika Padukone is from; it took place over a period of 7 months. It has been announced that the film's title will be changed to "Gulaab Gang".
